You wouldn't expect to find smart technology in boozy, smoke-filled Tarantinoesque pool bars, but Smart Technology Inceptions (STI) has installed over 120 smart card-operated pool tables into seven Stones pool clubs.
Cundell Statt, STI MD, says the installations have proved extremely viable for the Stones franchise, eliminating the enormous amount of coins it previously had to handle on a daily basis.
Clients buy the card for R10 after filling out a brief questionnaire which is used to garner information on the client, including their name and age. This information is then stored on the card along with the re-loadable smart purse.
Stones wants to use this information to increase its marketing clout with customers it now knows much better, and Statt says a loyalty programme is in the offing.
Implementation at the Stones franchise began a year ago with a trial run at Stones in Melville on five tables and has since grown to seven bars and 125 tables. Statt says all 15 Stones outlets will be brought online in the following months.
The card has security features and is valid at all Stones outlets. Statt says solutions provider STI uses Gemplus cards and a Microsoft platform to give Stones as reliable a solution as possible.
