Police are investigating the procedure for releasing equipment from the North West Department of Finance after computer equipment worth R500 000 intended for a local school was recovered from an industrial sector in Mafikeng.
Police inspector Lesego Metsi says a man was arrested when the crime intelligence unit discovered the equipment, but he was subsequently released when it was found that the equipment was supposed to have been donated to a nearby school.
"The man was arrested along with papers from the Department of Finance for the release of the equipment. More than 100 keyboards, 70 CPUs, 40 monitors, 14 printers, one scanner and a pack of 10 ink cartridges were confiscated.
"He has been subsequently released until it can be determined why he was in possession of the computers destined for the school."
