Potlaki Maine joins Microsoft South Africa

Johannesburg, 02 Dec 2005

Microsoft South Africa has announced the appointment of Potlaki Maine as National Technology Officer with immediate effect and forms part of the company`s public sector team.

Potlaki`s responsibilities will include working closely with government on all aspects of Microsoft`s technology strategy as it relates to the development of national technology policy and the implementation and use by government, education and academia. In doing so, he will aim to assist government to reach its technology goals in the spirit of Batho Pele.

"South Africa has made tremendous progress not only in economic and social terms, but also in adopting new technologies and ideas. This has made South Africa a leader in Africa and in bridging the digital divide," says Gordon Frazer, Managing Director of Microsoft South Africa.

"We realise that as a strategic technology partner to government, the public sector has a different set of needs and requirements to Microsoft`s private sector customers. We believe that the appointment of Potlaki Maine as part of our team will contribute to ensuring greater levels of strategic service delivery and work towards realising government`s vision for technology in South Africa."

Maine joins Microsoft from the South African Revenue Services (SARS), where he held the position of chief business strategist, reporting to the Office of the SARS Commissioner in the Risk Division.
