Powerful protection

Johannesburg, 02 Nov 2010

Specialist distributor Phoenix Software has added to its range of offerings with the addition of a new backup solution. Retrospect, a backup and recovery software that allows small and midsize businesses to efficiently protect critical data stored on Mac, Windows, and Linux servers, desktops, and notebooks, is a great addition to the company's products targeted at the small to medium business market.

"With more than two decades of field-proven expertise, millions of users worldwide and a price point that's a fraction of other solutions, Retrospect is ideal for individuals and businesses looking to quickly and efficiently protect critical data," says Phoenix Software Channel Director Anton Vukic.

“Retrospect has a storied history on the Mac, having been developed for that platform in 1984. Today, Retrospect is available in a variety of versions, including Mac and Windows versions designed for network and local hard drive backup.”

Retrospect delivers powerful and easy-to-use data protection for servers, 24x7 applications, desktops and notebooks. It protects businesses from data loss due to user error, computer failure or site-wide disasters, such as fire, theft or flood. “Retrospect protects millions of computers worldwide, and consistently earns top awards and broad industry acclaim for its unique patented technology,” adds Vukic.

All of the products in the Retrospect range have the ability to perform multiple, simultaneous backup, restore and copy operations, and backup-to-disk features that include support for local and network disk systems. Retrospect allows simultaneous streaming of data to multiple disk or tape storage systems.

With Retrospect installed on any Windows computer, Macintosh, Linux, Solaris and NetWare clients can be backed up automatically to the backup server as specified by the computer running Retrospect. Unlike other backup products, Retrospect does not require weekly full backups in order to accurately restore data - after one full backup, the Retrospect patented smart incremental backup technology takes care of the rest, saving time and storage space.

“The latest versions of Retrospect deliver as much as three-times faster network backup performance, add 64-bit addressing to enable the backup of volumes containing tens of millions of files, and include user interface enhancements that simplify workflow and management tasks,” Vukic says. “During the normal course of performing backups, Retrospect automatically gathers all the necessary information - including the operating system, applications, and all settings - to completely restore a computer that has failed. In the event of a catastrophic failure, the Retrospect Emergency Restore CD is there to help you restore your data.”

From documents and photos, to e-mail and tax returns, a business' PC contains all kinds of valuable information. Businesses no longer need to worry about mistakenly deleting or overwriting a file, a virus infecting their computers, or hard drive failure - Retrospect's got their back.
