Poynting Antennas unleashes 5-6GHz panel antenna product range

Johannesburg, 16 Sep 2005

Poynting Antennas, a leading manufacturer and supplier of WLAN antenna products in SA, has announced the release of four new 5-6GHz antenna products this month.

This step mirrors the company`s confidence in the growing WLAN market both in SA and the rest of the world. Says CEO Andre Fourie: "We have learnt to listen to our distributors and end-users, who all report an increasing need for high quality 5GHz products as the venerable 2.4-2.5GHz band fills up. These new products are a direct response to that requirement."

All the latest products reflect a new focus on ease of use for installers by making use of improved bracketry and lightweight radiator technology.

Technological developments have allowed the company to introduce a more advanced product at a lower cost than overseas and local competitors, while retaining the company`s commitment to `honest` products in a market where "specmanship" is ruining customers` confidence in what they are buying and using.

The new products include two outdoor antennas: a 23dBi, 5.4 to 5.85GHz panel and a 18dBi, 5.3 to 5.85GHz panel, both with N-type female bulkhead connectors standard. These antennas are particularly suited to CPE and medium range point-to-point links and are priced to allow affordable distribution in large numbers to end-users.

Adding to the company`s popular range of integrated antenna products, are: a 23dBi, 5.4 - 5.85GHz BridgePoynt with aluminium enclosure and a 20dBi 5.1 - 5.85GHz BridgePoynt in the latest generation injection-moulded `Multipurpose` enclosure. Included with both products are multipurpose mounting kits to secure almost all 5GHz WLAN electronics inside the respective enclosures. Enclosures with integrated antennas are particularly applicable to the 5GHz market, as they alleviate the problem of RF losses in long lengths of cable that typically separate antennas and WLAN transceivers in more traditional installations.

The integrated antennas come standard with SMA female bulkhead connectors inside the enclosures to interface to the user`s electronics though a suitable adaptor cable. Integrated products, such as these, are especially suitable for bridging and CPE due to their ease of installation and maintenance.

Business unit manager for wireless products at Poynting, Chris Vale, claims these new developments are the tip of the iceberg of future products in WLAN.

"Watch this space. We have plans for a bunch of exciting new products for the last quarter of 2005, including new grid dish antennas and lower cost omnis and sectors in both 2.4 and 5GHz. My aim is to get South Africans to use only South African manufactured WLAN antenna products by this time next year."

Poynting also provides training courses for WLAN installation and planning. For more details on these or any of the products mentioned, please contact 0800 443 443 or sales@poynting.co.za
