Pretoria College revolutionises distance education

Johannesburg, 07 Dec 2000

Live distance , or e-learning as it is known in the educational world, has been adopted by the Pretoria College through their strategic alliance with CampusWise, supplier of LIVE e-learning in South Africa. The Pretoria College, one of the leading Technical Colleges in South Africa, made history today by becoming the first educational institution in South Africa to embark on a new and innovative way to extend their current training to include live voice-interactive distance education.

The Pretoria College, which has a rich historical background and a well-known landmark in Pretoria, prides itself on its delivery of outstanding vocational training to all people of the community. The introduction of InterWise, a voice-interactive platform for delivering of live classes via the , supports its vision to make education as accessible as possible to all in South Africa and promotes the intellectual, cultural and individual development of all students on all levels.

InterWise`s full multi-media capabilities and application sharing feature enhance the learning experience of a student by supporting the "see, hear, do" model for lesson material retention. The simple five-button student interface requires only minutes to master to enable students to concentrate on course content, not the technology.

Students benefit in numerous ways by the power of live e-learning. Travel expenses are reduced as students log onto the Internet from the safety of their own homes from a PC equipped with a sound card, headset and microphone. In so doing learners get to spend more time with their families and yet get in a live mentored instructor-led class.

The Pretoria College plans to roll out with subjects such as English, Criminology, History, Biblical Science and Accountancy on Grade 12 level as early as February 2001, with other courses soon to follow.

CampusWise`s MD, George Verster, comments: " The Internet has changed the way we eat, live and also learn. New Internet technology opens up new possibilities - it acts as a great equalizer in terms of offering quality training for everybody in South Africa independent of location or time and the Pretoria College is leading the way with its visionary thinking."
