PreWorX, Xpoint deliver one-click disaster recovery

Johannesburg, 12 Oct 2004

PreWorX is expanding its local operations by launching a new division dedicated to providing PC, server and data management services to corporate SA.

Central to this division will be the company`s own preboot technologies and US-based Xpoint`s One Button Restore solutions.

The company has signed a preferred reseller partnership agreement with Xpoint and will become its exclusive distributor and first-level support provider in SA.

Xpoint is a developer of autonomic managed recovery and one-button restore (OBR) solutions that help businesses significantly reduce the complexity and costs associated with managing laptops, desktops, servers, kiosks, POS terminals and handheld devices.

"This agreement augments PreWorX`s ability to provide South African businesses with the best in dedicated PC, server and IT management services," said Rhys Taylor, executive director at PreWorX. "There are many desktop and server management products in the market, but there are few local companies with the ability to provide customers with an end-to-end suite of products and services that deliver high returns on investment and even higher productivity benefits.

"The vision of this partnership is to provide a comprehensive management service through a set of great products not directly represented in SA in the past."

Xpoint`s OBR is a simple concept that enables any distributed IT device to heal itself (restore lost data, applications and operating systems) at the touch of a button or the click of a mouse. Incorporating a secure, tamper-proof safety partition that dynamically adapts to the end-user environment, the OBR software quickly restores any device to its last known good state, along with end-user data and settings without the need for additional IT intervention.

As part of the PreWorX service offering, the OBR solutions will deliver increased resiliency, reduced costs and rapid ROI in challenging areas such as software patch management, virus remediation and operating system migration.

With Xpoint implemented, should a user-induced failure, software corruption, operating system corruption, or a virus or hacker intrusion cause data loss, users can easily restore their data. Xpoint`s technology even allows users to restore specific versions of any backed-up file.

"As evidence of the high regard in which the industry holds Xpoint Technologies, IBM signed an OEM agreement with Xpoint (in 2001) to include its rapid-restore functionality in all new ThinkPad notebook computers," adds Taylor. "PreWorX will therefore already have a large mobile customer base in SA to offer maintenance services to, as well as upgrades to more functionally rich versions of the software."

"As the world`s leading provider of autonomic managed recovery solutions with technology deployed on more than 10 million endpoints, Xpoint has continually relied on outstanding partners to help us drive growth," said Frank Wang, CEO of Xpoint. "As a company, we invest considerable resources to ensure the success of our channel partners and look to them as mission-critical to our growth strategies. We are delighted to welcome PreWorX to our team and will be counting on its local knowledge and outstanding support to broaden our customer base in SA."

"The fact that many local companies felt secure enough to trust their data to a US company`s application downloaded via the Internet is proof of the quality and ease of use of Xpoint`s products," Taylor adds. "Combining our system management and preboot technology offerings together and experience with Xpoint`s recovery solutions will provide our customers with a comprehensive management solution that will enable them to focus on their core business while we look after their PCs and servers 24x7."
