Apple's new smartphones - the flagship iPhone 5S and its cheaper counterpart, the iPhone 5C - have been available to South African consumers since Friday and SA's operators have put together a range of contracts.
Vodacom says while the phones are not yet available on prepaid, the recommended selling price of the 5C (16GB) is R8 899. For the iPhone 5S, this will be R10 499 for the 16GB, R11 799 for the 32GB and R13 299 for 64GB. Pricing may vary, depending on the store.
The iPhone 5S includes new features like the Apple-designed A7 64-bit chip, new 8MP iSight camera with True Tone flash and Touch ID, a means of unlocking and securing the phone with the built-in fingerprint sensor.
The 5C has been positioned by Apple as "unapologetically plastic" and is similar to the 5S, but without the fingerprint sensor and with an A6 chip.

Vodacom
Vodacom is running a launch promotion, offering customers an additional 500MB of data for 24 months on all contracts for the iPhone 5S and iPhone 5C. This will run until 7 December.
At the moment, says the operator, the new iPhones are available on contract and for upgrades only, on a range of Vodacom's Smart and Red plans. The Smart plans include anytime minutes, SMS and Vodacom data, while the Red plans include unlimited SMSes and more data and voice minutes.
The 16GB iPhone 5C - available in pink, blue, yellow, green and white, and for a monthly fee for 24 months - is available on the Smart S (R399), Smart M (R499), Smart L (R629), Smart XL (R799), Vodacom Red Advantage (R999), Red Premium (R1 599) and Red VIP (R1 999) packages.
The 16GB iPhone 5S - available in silver, grey and gold, and for a monthly fee for 24 months - is available on the Smart S (R469), Smart M (R569), Smart L (R699), Smart XL (R869), Vodacom Red Advantage (R999), Red Premium (R1 599) and Red VIP (R1 999) packages.
The 32GB iPhone 5S - available in silver, grey and gold, and for a monthly fee for 24 months - is available on the Smart S (R529), Smart M (R629), Smart L (R799), Smart XL (R949), Vodacom Red Advantage (R1 199), Red Premium (R1 599) and Red VIP (R1 999) packages.
The 64GB iPhone 5S - available in silver, grey and gold, and for a monthly fee for 24 months - is available on the Smart M (R679), Smart L (R879), Smart XL (R999), Vodacom Red Advantage (R1 299), Red Premium (R1 799) and Red VIP (R1 999) packages.
MTN
MTN offers the iPhone 5C, in both 16GB and 32GB, and the iPhone 5S in 16GB, 32GB and 64GB.
Like Vodacom, the operator says the first batch of devices will not be available to prepaid customers.
MTN's is offering the new iPhones on five Anytime packages - starting at R279 per month for the iPhone 5C and R429 per month for the iPhone 5S. The Anytime 100, 200 and 350 packages include 300MB of bonus Internet, while the Anytime 500 and 750 include 500MB.

Telkom Mobile
Telkom Mobile is offering the 16GB iPhone 5C in white, blue and pink with two options: SmartPlan 50 and SmartPlan 100.
The entry-level plan has a price tag of R399 per month for 24 months and includes 50 all-network voice minutes, unlimited Telkom Mobile to Telkom Mobile calls for the first year, 75MB of inclusive all-network data and an additional 500MB of Telkom Mobile data, and the operator's 5 for 50 SMS promotion.
SmartPlan 100 costs R479 per month ? also on a two-year contract ? and includes 100 all-network voice minutes, unlimited Telkom Mobile to Telkom Mobile calls for the first year, 150MB of inclusive all-network data and an additional 5GB of Telkom Mobile data, and the operator's 5 for 50 SMS promotion. This plan also includes WiFi access with a 10GB fair usage policy.
For the 32GB iPhone 5S - available in grey, silver and gold, Telkom Mobile has its Completely Unlimited plan for R1 749 per month on a 24-month contract. This includes unlimited voice calls to all South African mobile and fixed-line networks, unlimited data on the Telkom Mobile network, unlimited WiFi (1 500 hotspots across SA) and unlimited SMSes on all national networks, on and off peak.
Cell C says the new iPhones are currently available for pre-order and prices will be released soon.
