Printers defy Black Saturday tragedy
Digital Imaging in Victoria, Australia, has overcome personal tragedy and risen from the ashes of the Black Saturday bushfires, reports ProPrint.
Denis Spooner and Suzi Kerr met at a recovery centre in the wake of the fires, which devastated their hometown of Strathewen just over two years ago.
They joined forces and recently opened Belladona Digital in a rebuilt residence in the town. The company has invested in two Roland DG machines.
The plans for expansion are tied to a $52 000 Victorian Bushfire Reconstruction and Recovery Authority business grant the pair is in the process of finalising.
According to Wide Format Online, Spooner comes from the signage industry while Kerr comes from the in-house publishing industry.
The pair intend to purchase a digital cutting device to make further in-roads in the local wine industry by printing and cutting out wine boxes for their expanding customer base in that sector.
Spooner and Kerr didn't need to look beyond their own backyard for inspiration when naming their new business, reveals the Diamond Valley Leader.
After all, the belladonna lily was one of the first plants to show signs of colour after fires devastated Strathewen on Black Saturday.
