Printronix's first printer optimised for high frequency RFID applications, the Smartline SL4M is now available to South African users from distributor The Printer Distribution Company (PDC). In addition, the company has also announced the availability of RFID-ready Printronix' Thermaline T4M bar code printer.
The SL4M is a midrange, industrial-grade metal printer/encoder designed for global Class 1 Gen 2 ultra-high frequency (UHF) RFID applications. It is interoperable with Printronix's MP2 family of SL5000r RFID printers and SLPA8000r RFID printer applicators.
Says Holger Steer, South Africa Area Sales Manager for Printronix, "For major retailers, manufacturers and distribution centers around the world, the SL4M offers the most cost-effective RFID solution with its patented MP2 encoding technology. With more UHF RFID installations than any other manufacturer, Printronix's encoding platform demonstrates the industry's highest read-and-encode yield-performance rates, according to user feedback, and offers the widest breadth of tag support."
Looking at the T4M, the thermal printer is optimised for smaller organisations, however, offers the same architecture found on Printronix high-end T500R offering.
According to BMI-T's latest figures, Printronix has 35 percent of the local industrial line printer market share. "These latest printers will undoubtedly continue to drive Printronix local growth. With already a strong international footprint, both the SL4M and TM4 confirm the company's commitment to innovative, customer-centric products," comments Rodney Bartman, CEO at PDC.
The SL4M also is available in a field-upgradeable, RFID-ready thermal printer model and does not require a factory return for RFID conversion.
The printer integrates into most into bar code printing environments with support for six printer languages and direct XML printing for either 203 or 305 dpi resolution.
The icon-driven graphic interface offers easy configuration and installation. Furthermore, the SL4M offers 32MB RAM of memory and 8MB Flash for faster processing and label storage.
The T4M also features 32 MB RAM of memory and 8MB Flash as well as an embedded printer language that supports Printronix, Zebra, TEC, Sato, Intermec, and Datamax. The printer includes Printronix' PrintNet Enterprise remote management as well as XML enabled printing from SAP and Oracle and XML based remote management via PXML.
