Procom announces NetFORCE 4000 range of NAS appliances

Procom announces NetFORCE 4000 range of network attached storage (NAS) appliances with fibre channel backplanes.
Johannesburg, 31 Mar 2003

Procom Technology a global leader in network attached storage (NAS) solutions and its South African distributor Automated Logic Solutions (ALS), today introduced the NetFORCE 4000, a new series of NAS filers with improved performance, storage density, and modular scalability for greater productivity and data protection.

With its dual-head, fully redundant design, the NetFORCE 4000 is massively scalable to a storage capacity of 32.7 terabytes. It features low-profile 2U filer heads and a 2-gigabit-per-second Fibre Channel back end for ultra high I/O performance.

The NetFORCE 4000 includes a clustered failover configuration (Model NF4200c) that features a modular architecture with redundant, hot-swappable components that eliminates single points of failure and facilitates non- stop performance. If one system is down, the second system compensates so data remains fully available.

Standard features for the product range include checkpoint support for immediate file recovery; dynamic volume expansion; cross-platform, heterogeneous file sharing; an easy-to-use browser-based GUI; NDMP-compliant backup; and SNMP monitoring.

For true 24/7 business continuance, Procom`s ProMirror(tm) disaster recovery software option maintains a near real-time copy of mission-critical data at a geographically remote site, ensuring that data from the source filer is continuously reflected onto the target filer. ProMirror`s many-to-one mirroring feature enables NetFORCE filers located at multiple sites to synchronize data with a single NetFORCE filer, and cross-mirroring further heightens performance by providing local access of critical information while replicating it to an alternate site, thus avoiding wide-area network latency.

An ideal solution for enterprises with data-intensive applications, the new NetFORCE 4000 -- like all members of Procom`s successful NetFORCE family- features a powerful combination of optimized software, open architecture and best-of-breed components, making it highly cost-effective and easy to install.

Moreover, the NetFORCE operating system is backward compatible with previous generations of Procom filers, which protects against obsolescence, simplifies management of multiple NetFORCE filers, and lowers overall system administration costs.
