Matriculants who are uncertain of their future, have not secured employment, nor gained entry to tertiary institutes, should consider enrolling at JSE-listed Kelly Group's skills development division, Torque IT, for a one-year IT Professional Diploma Programme.
The one-year nationally and internationally recognised certification programme, which starts late February, offers a great opportunity for career progression through a broad spectrum of jobs and the prospect of specialising in an IT field. Torque IT has established key specialist partnerships with acknowledged market leaders and as such offers vendor-authorised training courses that are recognised in the industry. The IT Professional Diploma offers a comprehensive bouquet of highly sought-after Microsoft, Cisco and CompTIA training courses nationally. In addition, credits received at the completion of the diploma course can facilitate further study. The requirement for the diploma is a matric certificate.
Torque IT chief financial officer Gerhard de Beer says graduates of this diploma can get into the labour market at an accelerated pace and do not have to invest three years of their lives in studies. “The IT Professional Diploma Programme has been specifically designed to meet fundamental business IT needs and includes work experience with one of Torque IT's corporate clients as part of the curriculum,” he says.
De Beer says that rather than sitting at home and joining the ranks of the unemployed, matriculants who wish to further their studies but weren't able to gain university entrance or pursue their preferred course of studies should use the opportunity to enhance their skills set.
“Businesses no longer recruit people with only a matric qualification and, given the current economic climate, the 348 117 pupils who matriculated last year are going to struggle to find full-time employment. A career in IT is a logical choice due to the shortage of qualified people in this field. According to the Department of Labour's scarce and critical skills list, 37 565 IT professionals are needed to ensure adequate skills in this sector and computer technology company Oracle predicts a similar shortfall of IT professionals up to the year 2014. A career in IT can also expose a person to a variety of sectors including banking and finance, telecommunications, as well as logistics and transportation, as IT is a fundamental skill set in the world of work.”
De Beer says by virtue of Torque IT's association with Kelly Group, with over 40 years' of employment expertise, graduates will automatically have their details loaded to the candidate databases of Kelly Group's sector-leading recruitment brands, including Kelly and PAG, which will also enhance their career opportunities.
Torque IT is the IT training provider of choice, geared at equipping young dynamic individuals who are passionate about technology and interested in a career in IT with the necessary skills and expertise to excel in the world of work.
