Progress user conference dedicated to e-business best practices

Johannesburg, 29 May 2001

More than 1 000 Progress users are expected to congregate at The Progress Company`s Worldwide User Conference in Washington DC from 3 to 7 June.

The Progress Company is a subsidiary of Nasdaq-listed Progress Software. The Progress Worldwide Exchange 2001 conference is a technical event designed to help IT decision-makers and business executives plan and execute e-business development projects.

At this year`s exchange, attendees will collaborate with Progress customers who have made the transition to a true e-business environment, and learn how to leverage Progress products and a prescribed Universal Application Architecture (UAA) to build fast, flexible and affordable e-business applications.

Attendees will have an opportunity to re-architect a sample application using the Progress Open Source Software Exchange (POSSE) Internet Component Framework (ICF) currently being developed through the POSSE community at the E-Celerator Lab. The lab is a hands-on workshop for building Web applications. POSSE ICF is a comprehensive framework for building and re-architecting Progress applications to the Internet.

John Sadd, a Progress engineering fellow and lead architect for the ICF-Kickstart initiative launched this year, says POSSE promises to reduce time to develop a Progress-based e-business application by more than 50%.

South African software development company MIP Holdings will attend the conference to showcase its Astra range of rapid application development tools. The tools have plug-and-play capability within the POSSE ICF environment as one of the tools, the base Astra development framework, was chosen by representatives of the POSSE community to form the base framework in the ICF.

"I am looking forward to gauging the reaction of Progress independent software vendors (ISVs) from the rest of the world to the innovations under way at the E-Celerator Lab," says Rick Parry, MD of Progress Software SA, who will attend the conference.

"MIP Holdings has done SA proud and continues to play an important role in the development of the POSSE ICF, which will benefit Progress ISVs and clients worldwide by speeding time to market in the development of e-business systems."

Among the speakers at the conference are inventor and entrepreneur Dean Kamen, and Adidas America`s chief technology officer, Dieter Schoenegger, whose speech, "E-Business: If You Can Imagine, You Can Build", is expected to draw record attendances.
