This is the very reason that has driven Pauline Smith, Managing Director of Fulcrum Business Solutions, to announce a programme specifically targeted at empowering previously disadvantaged individuals (PDIs).
Fulcrum provides training on Principles of Project Management and Microsoft Office Project 2003 for project managers on a monthly basis, and would like to provide previously disadvantaged individuals with the opportunity to attend these training courses. Thus enabling them to broaden their knowledge and integrate with lecturers and fellow learners.
Smith says: "We would like to invite suitable individuals from disadvantaged communities to attend these sessions. We would like to enable individuals to grow and develop their unique potential. We would like to give back to the community."
The process to follow is very simple; any PDI who has a desire to learn more about the Principles of Project Management and Microsoft Office Project with the end goal of seeking employment in project management can apply to attend the course at no cost. The programme will provide the individual with an understanding of and a qualification in Principles of Project Management and Microsoft Office Project 2003 for Project Managers, the final step will be an exam that will be conducted on the third and final day.
The only requirement is a basic level of computer literacy and of course a basic knowledge of project management, which inherently means that an individual should be able to break a large task down into many smaller tasks and understand how to schedule the tasks.
Smith said in conclusion, that she believed this sort of training would enable young people to be more employable. She added that as a company that recognises that the power of a business lies with its people, Fulcrum felt that empowering the countries youth to become employable was one of the most important initiatives that Fulcrum as a company could offer.
