ProScan Systems recently introduced the Intermec SF51 cordless scanner, which combines a flashlight with a patent-pending, quick attach/release mechanism for extremely comfortable and durable scanning.
ProScan is a leading value-added distributor of a wide range of barcoding, data collection, RFID, wireless networking, GSM/GPRS communication and mobile technologies for a wide range of industries in southern Africa, including retail, fast-moving consumer goods, transport and logistics, and manufacturing. In addition, ProScan has the sole distribution rights for Intermec products in southern Africa.
The Intermec SF51 scanner incorporates a wireless personal area network (PAN) radio based on Class 1 Bluetooth wireless technology, enabling the scanner to communicate with any Bluetooth-enabled computer, including a range of Intermec mobile computers, without the need for a base station.
A 10-hour battery life delivers more than 5 000 scans, making the SF51 ideal for mobile or vehicle-mounted computers that support scan-intensive applications in logistics/transportation, warehousing and distribution, manufacturing, parcel delivery and field service industries.
The scanner`s compact design allows it to easily fit in a hand. The unit features a mechanism that allows it to be clipped and quickly released onto a belt or chest pocket without requiring the user to look away from the job at hand.
The SF51 integrates Intermec`s SmartSystemT technology, which allows the user to configure devices simply by turning them on. SmartSystem automatically synchronises all devices on the system, automatically testing each SmartSystem-enabled device at start-up. An Intermec blue Ready-to-Work indicator then illuminates, signalling the device is ready for a full shift of operation.
Andrew Fosbrook, Managing Director of ProScan, says the SF51 solves a significant usability and safety problem. "The unit is very light, easy to use and reliable, because there`s no cable to get in the way or break."
The SF51 uses the Intermec EV10 linear scan engine, delivering flexibility by combining high density, PDF417 and standard range barcode reading in one scan engine. The solid-state scan engine delivers 200 scans per second and easily reads poor-quality and damaged barcodes from up to 50cm away.
As many as seven SF51s can connect to a single mobile computer or PC, reducing the amount of hardware necessary to equip a team of workers. Using the Bluetooth discovery or Intermec patented QuickConnect system, a user can establish a link to a new host simply by scanning a barcode with the SF51.
The SF51`s 30.5 metre range allows users to leave the more expensive host device in their truck while performing routine scanning tasks, and its 70 decibel speaker and vibration mode overcomes extremely noisy work environments.
"The SF51 is a workhorse scanner in a small, durable form factor," adds Fosbrook. "Whether scanning in tight manufacturing settings or sorting and delivering parcels for eight hours, the SF51 takes hands-free scanning to a new level."
Accessories for the SF51 include single and 4-bay chargers, belt-mounted, wrist-mounted and chest-mounted holsters, and a USB Bluetooth adapter for connection to a PC.
