ProScan Systems, a leading distributor of supply chain, automated data collection and mobile computing solutions, extended its range of handheld readers earlier this year with the addition of the Datalogic Heron G CCD gun for instinctive reading in desk applications.
The Heron G is a gun-shaped addition to the series of Heron instinctive readers, which makes the operator`s job easier when used for data collection at a desk in office automation and document handling applications, as well as in warehousing and light industrial environments.
ProScan was appointed as a premier distributor for the Datalogic handheld range of bar code readers in South Africa earlier this year.
Like all of the latest generation of readers from Datalogic, the Heron G is equipped with a Datalogic patented "green spot" for good read feedback directly on the code in addition to a beeper. It can read all standard bar codes including reduced space symbologies, at a rate of 256 scans per second, and at distance of up to 24cm with an unbeatable first pass read rate. Puzzle Solver technology also helps improve reading performance in the case of damaged or badly printed codes.
The Heron G hand held reader can be provided with a stand to enable operators to use the reader as a presentation scanner. When the reader is placed in the stand, it automatically switches to hands-free mode and the green spot remains on to help users position the code to be read under the reader. A desk/wall holder is provided as an additional accessory for ease of use in environments where the workspace is limited.
The Heron G handheld reader is available in a single multi-interface model (RS232, USB, Wedge and Wand), making it compatible with various host systems simply by changing the plug-in cables.
The Heron G is based on enhanced multi-standard architecture which guarantees built-in data formatting and editing, enabling the captured data to be shaped to the format required by the application software.
This reader is particularly robust as it can resist drops to 1.8 metres on concrete surfaces. Furthermore, as with all handheld readers from Datalogic, the Heron G CCD gun comes with a five-year warranty.
Datalogic`s family of handheld readers, which are number one in Europe and second in the world, includes contact, instinctive, distance, 2D and cordless versions for retail and industrial applications.
