SunSpace and Information Systems (Pty) Ltd, the only space satellite manufacturing company in southern Africa, has implemented the PSNext enterprise project management system.
Most SunSpace clients are international agencies requiring specialised satellites for earth observation and research. In addition to acting as main contractor for the construction of satellites, Sunspace also manufactures a number of sophisticated satellite components for earth imaging and satellite control.
South African Satellite
SunSpace has been appointed as the main contractor to build a payload for a future South African satellite which is funded by the South African government.
This payload (called MSMI -Multi Sensor Micro-satellite Imager) will assist with analysing SA`s natural resources and agriculture. It will provide a wide range of valuable information such as crop prediction, forestry planning, fire damage, etc. MSMI is due for completion March 2006.
PSNext
In order to manage its various projects, SunSpace has implemented the PSNext enterprise project management system.
Chris Laker, project manager at SunSpace, comments: "We have been on the look-out for some time for a project management system able to satisfy our various requirements. We require a totally Web-based system with a central database, extensive security, and must be able to manage projects covering the globe. PSNext fits our requirements very well."
The central database of projects and resources combined with excellent reporting, allow better management control. "With PSNext we are able to complete the feedback loop from teams reporting time and progress, to the response of management to issues. Due to interactive Web-based reports, we are able to, for the first time, eliminate paper in our project management system."
Francois Retief, managing director of local distributor MPS, is very excited about the acceptance of PSNext in SA. "Many medium to large organisations have realised that traditional project management tools do not satisfy the demands of the 21st century. The fully Web-based, platform independent nature of PSNext, combined with Gartner rating PSNext as the most visionary product available today, has boosted PSNext sales into orbit."
