Q-KON uses Network Centre to prove its tech mettle globally

Johannesburg, 28 Sep 2010

South Africa has the technical expertise and capability to effectively provide reliable turnkey ICT solutions, service and support to international clients. This is the view of Dawie de Wet, CEO of Q-KON, a South Africa-based provider of turnkey solutions covering specialist areas of telecommunications and ICT.

According to De Wet, ongoing skills development and emerging small business, training and investment have contributed to the maturity of service providers competing in the ICT and telecoms industries.

Continued exposure to international best practices and knowledge has fuelled demand for innovation and training of personnel within these industries.

As an established operator within this space focused on trade with global businesses, Q-KON has developed a Network Operations Centre (NOC) that has established fixed communicates with international teleports and ensures a reliable channel for network monitoring and control.

“The centre is a critical component of our business. It gives us visibility of the operational status of remote customer sites, which is crucial to the delivery of our services,” says De Wet.

Since its inception in 2002, when Q-KON NOC started in Lagos, Nigeria, this team has grown to be a well-established operation with engineering support teams in Nigeria and the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) and South Africa.

Q-KON's network management team has experience on major VSAT network architectures, including iDirect networks, ViaSat Linkstar, NDSatcom SkyWAN network, multiple DVBC/SCPC networks and specialist MCPC networks.

De Wet believes this area of the business has sufficient resources and experience to meet an increasing demand for managed ICT services globally. Based on Q-KON's success thus far within the Africa market, the NOC team is ready to expand the company's presence and gain additional market share.

“Together with their service providers, Q-KON's Operations Centre has earned respect throughout Africa for providing technical support and engineering services when needed most. Combining superior platform engineering knowledge with hands-on field experience has made the NOC team very capable of servicing the challenging Africa market,” De Wet adds.

The company is particularly focused on adding value in areas that continue to show growth and potential within Africa.

According to De Wet, these areas include telephonic and online support, general technical enquiries, technical quandary customer support, installation and maintenance support, as well as service changes and suspensions and reactivation on all networks.

“We have made significant progress as far as the growth of the centre and entrenchment of value to our markets is concerned. All these facets of operational management and application of technology hold promise for the socio-economic development of key regions throughout the continent,” he adds.

Q-KON's NOC runs a customer relationship management (CRM) system called Netflow Analyzer Monitoring, which conforms to generally accepted security practices. Customers are able to register and gain access to a ticket system in order to trace the progress of issues raised with the centre.
