Q3 EMEA server sales grow 21%

Johannesburg, 22 Dec 2003

Research firm Gartner says the server market in Europe, Middle East and Africa (EMEA) grew 21% year on year in the third quarter of this year, with shipments totaling 390 thousand units and revenues growing by 4% compared with the same period in 2002.

Gartner`s Karen Benson says there was no slowdown usually associated with the third quarter because of the strong demand in the UK, Germany, France, the Middle East and Africa.

"This is the second consecutive quarter that we have seen a small increase in revenue, which indicates a gradual return to a positive spending climate."

Gartner says the major server vendors all posted strong shipment growth year on year of more than 10% in the third quarter of this year. IBM saw the strongest shipment growth of all the major vendors, reaching 41.2%, followed by Fujitsu Siemens with 31.2% and Dell with 29.7% growth.
