QlikTech offers shop floor BI

Henrik Been, executive director, product marketing, told ZDNet Asia that QlikTech chose to make its product available on more platforms to reach out to employees beyond top-level executives.

The cloud and mobile devices are platforms helping QlikTech to push (BI) to the shop floor.

QlikView's iPhone application, Been says, is targeted at sales staff who are on the go, part of a category of "new" BI workers.

Retailers re-focus on POS

Recent research reveals the recession is turning focus back towards store point-of-sale (POS) efficiencies and total cost of ownership, says Earth Times.

Some 73% of retailers rate themselves below, or at best sub-par, on their current point-of-service or POS capabilities, according to the Aberdeen Group report, 'POS to profits: reviving best-in-class sales and service in stores'.

The research from Aberdeen Group details the business benefits derived from upgraded POS performance and cost optimisation.

POS workstation popular with ISVs

Amid roll-outs at quick-service restaurants, convenience stores and other retail venues, the newest integrated POS workstation from NCR is also growing in popularity among top independent software vendors (ISVs), according to Sys-Con Media.

At last count, some two dozen POS applications have been certified with the NCR RealPOS 70XRT, which will be featured in NCR's booth at RetailNOW, the Retail Solutions Providers Association's Convention and Expo, from 11 to 16 July in Las Vegas.

Introduced late last year and released for customer deployments in March 2009, the NCR RealPOS 70XRT is designed for high performance and reliability, and offers energy efficient Intel processors with a high-efficiency power supply - features that can reduce energy consumption up to 50% over previous-generation POS workstations.
