Quantum`s DLT & Storage Systems Group and Benchmark Tape Systems have announced that Quantum`s Super DLT tape drive will read media written by Benchmark`s DLT1 tape drive.
"This read compatibility will provide a bridge between DLT1 products and our Super DLT tape family and will give customers a continuous path from the desktop to the enterprise," says William Boles, VP, marketing of Quantum`s DLT tape.
"This synergistic endeavour provides a solution for those currently utilising or considering standard DLT technology," says Lew Frauenfelder, president, Benchmark Tape Systems. "Starting with Benchmark DLT products on through Super DLT tape, customers can standardise their backup as requirements grow, without compromising accessibility or existing investment of their valuable data."
The Super DLT tape family will be offered in three ranges. The multi-range offering provides capacity and transfer rates appropriate for the workgroup, mid-range and enterprise business needs. For workgroup and departmental servers, the Super DLT tape drive will deliver a capacity of 80GB and a transfer rate of 8MBps.
The mid-range market, including large corporate departments and mid-size automated libraries, will see a drive with a capacity of 110GB and transfer rate of 11MBps. In response to high performance enterprise needs, Quantum will also offer a Super DLT tape drive with a transfer rate greater than 16MBps. (All of the specifications stated are in native/uncompressed mode.)
