Quantum, a US-based provider of backup, recovery and archiving, unveiled its esXpress software module, which optimises its DXi-Series disk backup and replication systems for VMware ESX virtual servers.

The company says its extended deduplication technology, esXpress and the DXi-Series together enable the affordable of file replication to remote disaster recovery sites.

“This combination lowers the cost of VMware protection and optimises the virtual infrastructure,” it states.

The esXpress software module is available for the entire DXi-Series of deduplication and replication solutions and is specifically designed to offer optimised backup for VMware servers, according to Quantum.

Rob Slaughter, IT director at JR Filanc Construction, says: "With esXpress, backup and restore operations have become a 'set it and forget it' solution that is allowing us to effectively utilise deduplication in our VMware environment.”

Quantum adds that with esXpress and the DXi-Series, backup windows are shortened without adding servers to support data backup and restoration. It also features a policy-based approach to installations and configurations to reduce deployment times.

"The combination of esXpress and the DXi-Series provides an affordable, effective solution for backing up virtual machines, linking together regional offices, midrange sites, and corporate data centres via replication,” says Ryan Johnson, country manager for Quantum Africa.

Two versions of the esXpress software module are available, Professional and Enterprise.
