Quantum Corporation and official local distributor, Channel Data, have announced the immediate availability of tape drive enhancements that enable companies to meet regulatory compliance standards utilising the SDLT 600 platform.
DLTIce, an extension of the DLTSage architecture, provides customers with WORM (Write Once, Read Many) archival functionality with a complete set of management tools and strong software support. Indeed, DLTIce makes the SDLT 600 the first super drive that can utilise standard media for both traditional backup and archive as well as for regulatory compliance.
Today, no company is exempt from regulatory requirements - particularly since the promulgation of the South African ECT Act (Electronic Communications and Transactions Act) - and subsequently have to steer clear of costly fines and penalties.
As a result, IT administrators are urgently looking for solutions to ensure their information systems and records can be archived simply and securely.
Comments Amit Parbhucharan, technology marketing director of Channel Data: "In order to comply to the ECT Act, companies have to ensure they have a clear document management policy, a legal e-mail disclaimer notice, a sound IT security policy, and importantly, a failsafe storage and backup system.
"DLTIce provides secure archive integrity - offering a cost-effective means to meet important regulatory requirements."
The solution`s WORM capability, for example, places an electronic key on each tape to ensure WORM integrity. This identifier, which cannot be altered, provides a tamper-proof archived tape version that meets stringent compliance requirements to ensure data integrity, full accessibility and reliable duplication.
At the IT administrator level, DLTSage - Quantum`s suite of predictive and preventative management tools - enables DLTIce functionality and verifies system integrity.
DLTIce functionality is available at no additional charge and will ship with all future Super DLTtape solutions. It is also available for download to field-installed SDLT 600 tape drives.
