Botswana Telecommunications Corporation (BTC) has awarded its R2.2 million retail management solutions hardware and software tender to JSE-listed Ixchange.
The tender specified the supply to BTC of a host of point-of sale (POS) terminals to replace old manual processing procedures. Ixchange won the contract and was tasked with implementing a range of POS terminals on BTC`s wide-area network (WAN), running Ixchange`s SaleAbility retail management system which was also customised to integrate with BTC`s billing system. SaleAbility is part of Ixchange`s ABILITY suite of business management solutions.
As a customer oriented organisation, the front office functionality is used to facilitate direct interaction with customers by the company`s cashiers. BTC collects millions of Pula over its counters every month and it is imperative that the collection process be as fast, efficient and secure as possible.
The SaleAbility terminals are used to make paying telephone accounts easier for BTC customers, as well as to automate customers` purchases of payphone cards.
The full functionality included in the retail management solution will include payment processing, sales processing, cash drawer management, inventory management, banking and reconciliation, as well as providing an updating interface to BTC`s billing system and general ledger.
SaleAbility will also eliminate many of the manual tasks staff had to handle in the past, speeding up sales and receipt processes and ensuring quicker reconciliations. This will lead to customers benefiting from faster, more efficient service with minimal errors and a timely update of accounts. With the front office processes streamlined, BTC will be reassigning some staff members associated with the manual capture of payments, but there will be no job losses. Staff will also undergo full training as the new systems are rolled-out.
