Hosting and cloud computing specialist Rackspace Hosting has launched new services for disaster recovery, managed storage and application-level hosting, to allow enterprises to respond quickly to market changes and decrease risky capital expenditure.
The new disaster recovery (DR) services help enable organisations to recover and reinstate mission-critical data in the event of an unplanned regional disaster or outage, as well as cope with data growth and regulatory requirements.
Rackspace spokesperson for the South African market, Geoff Dowell, said the company had also introduced new hosted messaging and collaboration solutions.
“Dedicated application hosting offerings, including Microsoft Exchange 2007, allow customers to free up resources and also improve uptime, security and performance in the critical messaging environment.”
He added that the new enterprise offerings are based on customer feedback. “Customers are telling us they need a partner to provide important but non-strategic functions that they want to buy as services instead of pouring their own capital and IT resources into them. Now we are able to offer even our most complex customers solutions designed for their individual storage and data replication needs.”
The Rackspace DR offering now provides dSAN highly scalable storage for databases and high transaction applications and dNAS, a high capacity solution for media rich applications and sites as well as large volume file storage.
A Disaster Recovery Services portfolio now provides host-based replication, an affordable means of data centre to data centre replication to recover critical data and a free DNS failover service. Other choices are Enterprise Replication Services using dNAS powered by NetApp NAS, and SnapMirror technologies customised and managed by certified NAS engineers. A dedicated professional services team delivers customised DR solutions for enterprise customers, including application, database and full server failover.
“We are also offering hosted messaging and collaboration solutions for customers needing customisable solutions, including design, deployment, hosting, support and administration by experts on Microsoft Exchange 2007 and/or Sharepoint on dedicated servers,” said Dowell.
