Rand Water has tested the waters and DynamiQue 1.0 is ready for the market

Johannesburg, 11 Sep 2001

Rand Water is set to go live on DynamiQue 1.0, the new human resource and payroll system from Q Data DynamiQue (QDD), the e-HR specialist in the PQ Africa Group. Beta testing began in April 2001 and Rand Water will start using DynamiQue 1.0 from the end of September 2001.

Rand Water is upgrading from QDD`s UniQue system to gain the benefits of the latest technology, including DynamiQue`s new employee self-service HR modules, and the advantages of using a relational database.

Rand Water has been the water utility for the Gauteng (previously PWV) region since 1903 and a QDD client since 1976. Rand Water manages HR, payroll and pension payments for 3 500 staff and 1 000 pensioners.

DynamiQue 1.0 is a completely new product suite, tying all personnel-specific applications together in one offering. It was developed in Delphi to run on SQL Microsoft Server 7 and Windows 2000. It has been implemented at Rand Water head office with stress testing on a WAN and Digilink line.

Rand Water`s HR and payroll staff will benefit from the ease of use of the new Windows front-end, with comprehensive online help reducing the need for ongoing training. Included in the software are Wizards that guide the user through pre-determined processes to prevent invalid entries, thereby reducing errors.

DynamiQue 1.0`s intuitive Web interface lets frontline employees access the system regardless of computer skill level. Staff will initially have access to their own information to check a variety of data, with the self-service modules for data updating data going live around December 2001.

"We chose DynamiQue because it is underpinned by the stability of the QPAC payroll engine," says Rinus Krause, payroll manager at Rand Water. "The QPAC engine has been around for 32 years and is one of the most stable in SA. We`ve been running it for 26 years. It gives us the freedom to change payroll rules without calling on consultants.

"We agreed to be a beta site because we like a hands-on approach. We`re looking forward to the flexibility of the SQL database`s extensive reporting capabilities," says Krause.

Rand Water will customise the payroll system extensively, adding interfaces into its Walker Financials and other benefit programs.

"DynamiQue will enable Rand Water holistically to manage all aspects of staffing through one integrated HR system," says Ockert Botha, HR IS project manager at Rand Water. "It incorporates traditional human resource management administration functionality as part of the core administration module, ensuring all relevant information required for statutory reporting by the Skills Development Act and the Employment Equity Act can be generated automatically," he says.

"Our client base have been waiting in anticipation for this beta test to be completed, as there is huge demand for the SQL database," says Robyn Braidwood, account executive at QDD. "The beta testing went very well and several enhancements from this test will be reflected in DynamiQue," she says.
