e-Development company Rational Software, represented locally by CCH Software Development, has announced the availability of Rational ClearCase 4.0, the software configuration management (SCM) software, on Red Hat Linux. Rational ClearCase 4.0 enables customers to speed development of software for the Internet by efficiently managing change to software applications across Linux, Unix and Windows environments.
The delivery of Rational ClearCase for Red Hat Linux represents an early development in Rational`s Linux strategy. Since January Rational has been working with Intel to make all of its applications available on Linux for IA-64.
"Linux has emerged as a scalable platform for developing Internet software, but customers continue to face the e-software paradox - the need to develop higher quality software in Internet time," says Themi Themistocleous, director of CCH Software Development. "This development will enable customers building Internet software on Linux to make use of ClearCase. Autodesk division Discreet Logic uses Rational ClearCase to manage its heterogeneous development environment. "ClearCase does an excellent job," says Greg Dickie, configuration at Discreet Logic. "The addition of Red Hat Linux support will help us streamline our development efforts across NT, Irix and Linux by allowing us to manage change to a common code base regardless of platform."
Rational ClearCase simplifies the process of change via comprehensive software configuration management - including version control, workspace management, process control and build management - with a transparent, non-intrusive approach. With Rational ClearCase, e-development teams can accelerate development cycles, ensure the accuracy of releases, reliably build and patch previously shipped products, and organise an automated development process - all without changing their environment or their tools. Rational ClearCase 4.0 facilitates e-business development efforts by unifying content authors with the rest of the e-development team. It enables multiple content authors to work in parallel on XML and HTML content and automatically reconcile their changes.
Rational ClearCase integrates with popular Web development environments including IBM WebSphere Studio, Microsoft FrontPage, Microsoft Word, Allaire ColdFusion, Bluestone SapphireWeb, HAHT HahtSite, and many others.
