Real IRM brings global enterprise architecture modelling language to South Africa

Real IRM, a leading enterprise architecture specialist, is launching the first ArchiMate 1.0 training course in South Africa in July.

Real IRM will offer ArchiMate training locally and internationally alongside its TOGAFTM (The Open Group Architecture Framework) training and certification. The training will be presented in the form of instructor-led, public and client-specific courses.

According to Louw Labuschagne, Training Manager at Real IRM: “The ArchiMate course is part of a comprehensive curriculum that helps enterprise architects plan and build life-long careers as enterprise architecture professionals.”

In 2009, The Open Group, for which Real IRM is the exclusive representative in South Africa, announced it had adopted ArchiMate version 1 as a standard global language for modelling enterprise architectures. ArchiMate 1.0 is a new language designed to provide enterprise architects a common vocabulary for describing, analysing and visualising enterprise architectures. The creation of a single, common language is intended to simplify the processes used within the enterprise architecture community for more effective work outcomes.

As an open and independent modelling language, ArchiMate 1.0 serves as an ideal method for delivering architecture models based on global standard framework for enterprise architecture, TOGAFTM. In addition, ArchiMate is an ideal starting point for model-driven architecture (MDA) within all industry frameworks because its service- and design-oriented perspective on architecture has clear implementation relationships to both Business Process Modelling Notation (BPMN) and Unified Modelling Language (UML).

“The ArchiMate meta-model and viewpoints also reduce the need for custom meta-models and modelling notations when creating architectures,” says Louw. “This is a crucial step in simplifying and improving the architecture process.”
