Real time access to information and better business management with Bynx BI

Johannesburg, 17 Apr 2000

JSE-listed company, Bynx South Africa, has recently focused its efforts on establishing a division - Bynx . Launched at the end of last year, Bynx BI allows users to extract up-to-date and real-time information from their ERP system, translating into better informed business decisions in real-time.

"Up-to-date information is the key to effective management," says Mike MacMurray, director of Bynx BI. "Users no longer have to wait until month end to know the status of their business. The sales department will, for example, know how many orders have been received and will also be able to compare this against sales forecasts on a daily or even on an hourly basis. Sales staff can enter orders on-line across the Web and can also generate reports across the Web."

Bynx BI undertakes a business analysis in order to fully understand clients` business requirements, developing a customised solution around those requirements. This process includes identification of key performance indicators through to extraction, transformation and transportation of relevant , as well as training and support. One company that has successfully implemented Bynx BI is fleet management company, Imperial Fleet Services. In addition to Bynx` standard ERP solution, Imperial Fleet Services has implemented `Bynx Fleet Management and Leasing` solutions.

Imperial Fleet Services is currently contracted to the South African Department of Transport (DOT) to manage four Department`s entire fleet requirements (including the Department of Water Affairs and Forestry, Department of Labour, Department of Health & Department of Transport) for both long term and short term vehicles - from trucks and buses through to light motor vehicles. The Departments require constant access to information such as running costs, status of vehicles, booking status of short-term rentals and the like.

By implementing Bynx BI, Imperial Fleet Services has ensured that the Departments have access to this critical information at all times - across the Web by means of a standard browser.

Murray Price, Director at Imperial Fleet Services - RTG, says that Bynx BI has provided a reliable and comprehensive on-line delivery system.

"The Departments now have direct access to all fleet information via the Web and are now in a position where they can enquire about bookings on-line and in real time," Price explains. "Whereas we would previously receive in excess of 100 telephone calls per day from the Departments alone, we now receive significantly less.

"We still, however, interface with the Departments on a daily basis. The new system has merely resulted in more flexible and efficient access to information," Price says. "The Departments can now log on to the system and generate reports as and when required - in real-time." Price adds that savings, although difficult to quantify at the moment, have been `substantial`.
