Rectron has been appointed a "Premier Service" partner by hard drive vendor Seagate Technology.
The appointment reflects Rectron`s growing domination of the drive market, where Rectron will now distribute Seagate and Maxtor brands, says Rectron divisional manager, Mike Cassidy.
"Seagate products are targeted at the upper end of the market, while Maxtor offerings are positioned at the `value` level, giving us a comprehensive spread of opportunities in the marketplace," he notes. "As a result, we expect Seagate to add significantly to our business, with projected sales in the region of 5 000 to 6 000 units per month, translating into a turnover of around of R10 million per year."
The appointment marks the first significant attempt by Seagate to market its products through the distribution channel in SA.
Commenting on the move, Seagate`s executive director (Distribution Sales) in South Africa, Hans-Dieter Blaser, says: "Rectron`s unique approach to the market adds real value to our product range. We are delighted to welcome the company as a Premium partner."
In a related announcement, Rectron has released details of a service and backup support plan for its OEM and reseller partners wishing to add Seagate products to their portfolios.
"The server market is one of the fastest growing in the industry and represents a significant opportunity for Rectron and its partners," says Cassidy.
"The demand for SCSI and iSCSI drives is ramping up along with demand for IDE, Serial ATA and tape backup solutions, all of which are featured in the Seagate range."
As part of the plan, Rectron, in association with Seagate, will offer extended warranties of five years on all SCSI drives marketed through the Rectron channel.
