Rectron launches Maxtor storage solution

Johannesburg, 08 Mar 2002

Rectron has launched the MaxAttach NAS 6000, a scalable storage server from Maxtor offering capacities up to 5.7 terabytes.

Targeted at the enterprise network storage market, the Windows powered server offers broad interoperability and is said to establish a platform for innovative solutions such as e-mail archiving, disk-to-disk backup, and volume aggregation. "The system enables complete data management solutions when combined with appropriate software applications," says Johnathan Tsao, Maxtor product manager at Rectron.

He says the enterprise-ready MaxAttach NAS 6000 offers features specially designed for data centre environments, such as redundant hardware components for high system availability, and RAID 5 data protection and Persistent Storage Manager (PSM) snapshot capabilities for high data availability.

The MaxAttach NAS 600 complements other Maxtor storage solutions in the Rectron line-up, all of which are based on the Windows platform facilitating easy deployment in data centres, remote offices and workgroup environments. With support for Windows, UNIX/Linux, Macintosh and NetWare clients, the MaxAttach NAS 6000 enables file sharing among users from all of these environments. It supports Active Directory and is compatible with network management tools from leading vendors such as Computer Associates, Hewlett-Packard, and Tivoli Systems.

Key features of the MaxAttach NAS 6000 include:

* High scalability - capacities from 1.9 TB to 5.7 TB

* High availability - hot-swappable drives, power supplies and cooling fans to ensure maximum uptime

* High density - 1.9 TB occupies a 4U standard rack enclosure and is scalable to 5.7 TB in just a 12U rack space.

* For ease of installation, the fully configured system is available in a stand-alone 32-inch cabinet.

* Multiple connectivity options - network interfaces include 10/100 Ethernet and Gigabit Ethernet (copper or fibre).

* Data protection - hardware RAID levels 0, 1, and 5 for high performance and data availability.

* Powerful processor and memory - Dual Intel Pentium III 866 MHz and 1 GB ECC SDRAM.
