Rectron, sole South African distributor of the Gigabyte range of motherboards, graphics cards and other computing hardware solutions, has launched the Gigabyte GV-NX96T512H-B, equipped with Nvidia's latest GeForce 9600 GT graphics processor and unique cooling technology to cater for silent, next-generation gaming and high-definition multimedia applications, including Blu-ray movie playback.
"Despite being one of the very latest cards on the market, the Gigabyte GV-NX96T512H-B graphics processing unit (GPU) sells for a suggested retail price of R2 999, which means it won't cost end-users an arm and a leg to play the very latest games and enjoy multimedia on their PCs as never before," said Tony Chiang-Lin, components business manager at Rectron.
"The advent of high-definition media and the progression of Blu-ray movies into the mainstream has led to dramatic increases in the bit rate of high-definition content. This means more graphical processing power is required to display images on-screen, with no lag and at the required resolutions of 720p or 1080p."
In other words, the latest generation of PCs needs even more powerful graphics processors to cater for high-definition content and gaming. Chiang-Lin states that Gigabyte's GV-NX96T512H-B provides this type of processing power - but with the added benefit of running completely silent.
Absolutely silent gaming, multimedia
"It is an absolutely silent graphics card and provides noiseless gaming time for gamers; ideal for 'WASD' players and FPS pros who often team up online for a long time and need to concentrate on their games without interruption," he says.
"And since a home theatre PC is there to provide entertainment in the lounge, the last thing you want in a set-up like this is a noisy computer that ruins the atmosphere in the quiet scenes of a movie or game, with a noisy cooling fan. Gigabyte has designed the GV-NX96T512H-B to keep cool and perform at its peak without adding noise."
Silent processing is provided via Multi-Core Cooling technology, a passive thermal solution designed for VGA cards, featuring multipoint cooling with copper nodes, ultra-thin layered fins with high-performance heat pipes, and an advanced natural convection design.
"Gigabyte has put a lot of research into ensuring that its unique silent cooling solution will allow this high-performance card to run smoothly without overheating," said Chiang-Lin.
High-def HDCP support
Jude Luckin, Gigabyte product manager at Rectron, adds that besides featuring the GeForce 9600 GT with 512 Mbytes of GDDR3 memory to deliver the highest levels of sophisticated game rendering for a greatly enhanced gaming experience, the GV-NX96T512H-B features 64 processors as well as support for high-bandwidth digital content protection (HDCP), providing the highest quality high-definition video for the ultimate home theatre experience.
"The Gigabyte GV-NX96T512H-B is compatible with the new PCI Express 2.0 bus architecture, offering a future-proof bridge to tomorrow's most bandwidth-hungry games and 3D applications by maximising the 5 Gb/s PCI Express 2.0 bandwidth -- twice that of first generation PCIe," he add.
Equipped with DirectX 10 support and adopting the latest Unified Shader architecture with full support for Shader Model 4.0, the Gigabyte GV-NX96T512H-B can deliver realistic gaming effects and allows users take full advantage of all the advanced features Microsoft Windows Vista Premium has to offer, including the full Aero Interface.
"The Gigabyte GV-NX96T512H-B features Nvidia's latest advanced technologies including GigaThread technology, which -- through the use of a massively multi-threaded architecture - can create thousands of independent, simultaneous threads, providing extreme processing efficiency for advanced, next-generation shader programs," said Luckin.
Additionally, the Gigabyte GV-NX96T512H-B supports Nvidia's Quantum Effects technology, enabling a new level of physics effects to be simulated and rendered on the GPU.
The Gigabyte GV-NX96T512H-B also features the Lumenex engine, which introduces 16x anti-aliasing and 128-bit floating point high-dynamic-range (HDR), for ultra-realistic rendering of lighting effects.
Integrated with Nvidia Extreme High Definition (XHD) for enhanced graphics resolution, the Gigabyte GV-NX96T512H-B supports the latest video output interfaces, including Dual Dual-Link DVI, for the highest dual 2560X1600 screen resolution.
"Differing from past GPU generations, the NVIDIA GeForce 9600GT also features a dedicated on-chip video processor for superb picture quality and ultra-smooth video playback," says Luckin.
