Leading South African distributor, Rectron, has been awarded Microsoft original equipment manufacturer (OEM) status for its range of Rectron-branded notebooks.
This announcement further strengthens Rectron`s appointment as Microsoft`s fourth OEM distributor for SA in September 2002. Rectron is licensed to distribute the OEM System Builder product.
The notebooks, manufactured by Rectron and powered by AOpen, will run Microsoft`s XP Home Edition and XP Professional Edition operating systems (OSs).
"This announcement is indeed good news as it not only enhances our existing OEM relationship with Microsoft, but also strengthens the adoption of our Rectron-branded notebooks," says Mark Lu, CEO of Rectron.
The distributor underwent careful scrutiny by Microsoft before its notebook range received the OEM stamp of approval.
Comments Guy Macqueen, Microsoft South Africa OEM sales manager: "Our customers come to us for high-quality software and hardware that offer the most up-to-date features. With this partnership, we feel confident that Rectron`s notebooks will provide high-quality systems to its customer with enhanced functionality and significant value.
"Microsoft OEM group is pleased to be working with Rectron in the future to deliver the best computing experience to our customers."
Through its notebook range, Rectron empowers resellers to offer their customers a locally-branded product that is more cost-effective and reliable, but still features powerful functionality.
"Our resellers will now be able to offer notebooks that are locally manufactured, rand-based and run the latest software from Microsoft," says Lu.
