The Red Hat Linux 6.0 factory-installed on select, certified configurations of Dell Precision WorkStations is now directly available from direct computer systems company, Dell Computer.
Marketing manager of Dell South Africa, Glenn Jones, says that the company is the first systems vendor in Europe Middle East and Africa to offer web ordering of systems, with Red Hat Linux already installed. "The move is a response to growing customer demand worldwide for systems configured with Linux. To this end, the Dell direct model provides customers with an ideal way to obtain Linux-related products, development tools and information," explains Jones.
Customers can purchase hardware certified for and installed with Red Hat Linux, as well as find relevant information on the latest developments for the operating system, after visiting only one site.
Dell was the first company to receive multiprocessor certification from Red Hat for its two-processor Dell Precision WorkStations and four-processor PowerEdge 6300 enterprise server. This will come factory-installed on configurations of its Dell Precision 410 and 610 workstations. The direct computer systems company plans to offer factory-installation on the PowerEdge 1300, 2300, 4300, 4350, 6300 and 6350 servers by mid July, and later in the summer, on the OptiPlex GX1 desktop PC.
