Dynamus Technologies has developed an automated SMS-based system to report and track bad driving.
Dynamus Technologies executive member Jaco Gerrits says the concept is aimed mostly at long distance and delivery vehicle drivers.
"A registered vehicle gets a sticker that is placed at the back of it and when a member of the public reports an incident, the owner of the vehicle at 'fault` will be notified via SMS," says Gerrits.
The owner of the vehicle will also have Web-access to a complete report with a management information system to view all registered incidents of bad driving. "The registration fee is R550 with an additional R35 for the sticker."
Gerrits feels drivers who are made aware their driving is being tracked will drive more carefully.
"We all change our driving behaviour when we know there`s a radar trap and knowing that a member of the public could register bad driving - you`re going to drive differently."
He says a similar concept is applied in the UK.
Gerrits says the firm has also noted the possibility that competing companies could try to victimise certain drivers, lodging reports continuously. To avoid this, he says: "A safeguard has been build into the system which allows two SMSes per cell number per day."
