Retail tech spend to rocket

Even as the recession has taken its toll on sales, retailers have continued to invest in technology, says Retail Solutions Online.

The retail technology hardware market, consisting of integrated point of sale (POS) systems, payment terminals, POS barcode scanners, POS printers, and electronic article surveillance systems, managed to continue growing during 2009, while many retailers experienced declines in sales as consumers tightened their purse strings.

In ABI Research's new market study, 'Next generation point of sale systems and retail technology', it is anticipated retail technology spend will grow to nearly $21 billion in 2014, from $14.8 billion in 2009.

Bleep, yReceipts partner

E-mail receipt marketing company yReceipts and Bleep Computing, a player in retail technology, have partnered to provide retailers with a new marketing tool, reports Journalism.co.uk.

Under the partnership, retailers will be able to display contextual offers and messages on every e-mail receipt sent from their store.

This opens up new opportunities to increase revenue and strengthen brand loyalty across multiple channels.

This was implemented and supported by OLR, a global company which assists in implementing and supporting retail systems.

The project was successfully implemented on time and under budget by a combined project team, and included products for merchandising, warehouse management, store operations, replenishment and the retail warehouse.
