RFID enables real-time monitoring

RFID technology forms an integral part of a real-time patrol-monitoring system from Guard Systems. Called Sure Patrol, this wireless system allows users to set patrol parameters, and generates SMS should these not be met.

According to Wireless Guard Systems, RFID tags are installed at user-specified control points. Staff carry an RFID reader-equipped cellphone-like 'wand', and the tags are read as each control point is passed. Should a tag not be read, a patrol not start or finish, an is sent by SMS to pre-set numbers stored on the company's server.

Additionally, each 'wand' has a 'please call me' and 'panic' button, and staff can be contacted on them as the device auto-answers after three rings; however, they cannot make calls as each unit does not have a keypad, screen or answer button. Alerts can be sent out to multiple numbers should staff encounter any real problems, the company says.

Through the closer monitoring made possible with this device, proactive and effective management of both security staff and security incidents can be achieved, the company says.
