RFID, GPS to improve recycling

Advanced Control Systems has developed waste- technology using RFID and global positioning system technology that could double recycling rates across the US, says Silicon Valley.

The technology will be used by municipal waste departments and private waste collectors.

When deployed, an RFID chip in each recycling bin is weighed and communicates with back-office information management systems, allowing the company to track the recycling activity of residents in an area.

Fujitsu releases tracking solution

Fujitsu Transaction Solutions has revealed that Staples Business Depot will install additional stores with AbsoluteSKY's intelliTRACKER inventory tracking system, reports Market Watch.

The intelliTRACKER system uses RFID to accurately track inventory to the item level in real-time, while providing increased inventory turns, elimination of missed sales and a reduction of operating costs.

Peter Sciberras, GM and VP of sales, Canada, for Fujitsu Transaction Solutions, says: "The pilot results are conclusive and encouraging, and we're excited to roll this system out to additional locations."
