RFID to grow by 11%
Despite the weakened state of the world economy, RFID markets are not contracting, according to the latest data from ABI Research, reports Business Wire.
Research shows that the RFID market should see 11% growth between 2009 and 2010.
ABI Research practice director Michael Liard says: “The most robust applications include contactless ticketing, contactless payments (particularly in North America and Europe), item-level tracking in fashion apparel and footwear, asset management, baggage handling, real-time location systems, and electronic identification documents.”
RFID boosts Saudi Arabian post
Saudi Post is rolling out RFID-based mailboxes as part of an overall IT and service upgrade that includes an active RFID-based system to monitor quality at Saudi Arabia's mail-sorting centres, says RFID Journal.
Each of the 10 million mailboxes that will be installed at homes in Saudi Arabia is fitted with a passive ultrahigh-frequency EPC Gen 2 RFID tag that uniquely identifies it.
Postal carriers employ Intermec handheld computers with built-in RFID interrogators to identify the mailboxes before slipping letters into them.
Artfest International unveils RFID
Artfest International has completed the development and acquisition of new RFID software and RFID chips package, states Sys-con.
Art Channel Galleries, direct marketing company for collectable art and sports memorabilia, a wholly owned subsidiary of Artfest International, has started rolling out tracking software in its enterprise software system.
Angie Tassan, chief marketing officer for Artfest International, says: "These RFID chips are attached to the back of the paintings or memorabilia, and contain the information about the origin and authenticity of the product. The Art Channel Galleries software will track and maintain all the data and provenance information about the products and its intellectual property owners and creators.”
