RightScale releases millionth cloud server
RightScale has released more than one million servers on the cloud through its RightScale Cloud Management Platform, says Data Centre Knowledge.
RightScale, a three-year old cloud specialist, has helped deploy cloud installations for clients ranging from social gaming company Zynga to entertainment conglomerate Sony Music.
“One million is a big number and testifies to the enormous traction that cloud computing - and automated cloud management - has achieved,” says Michael Crandell, RightScale CEO. “It also presents more undeniable evidence that it's no longer a question of whether or not cloud computing will become a major force for change in IT - it's only a question of how fast.”
Fujitsu Primergy server targets cloud
Fujitsu has released the Primergy CX1000 server for cloud computing environments, writes eWeek.
The solution promotes 38 rack servers in an enclosure, with shared power distribution and cooling components. The system is designed to conserve floor space and power, and is based on Intel's new four-and six-core Xeon 5600 series processors.
“Everything is centralised in the rack,” says Manuel Martull, senior director of server marketing at Fujitsu. He estimates businesses can save about 20% on the cost of the rack servers because of the elimination of those components.
newScale supports Cisco UCS
NewScale is supporting the Cisco Unified Computing System (UCS) to enable service providers and enterprises to leverage the newScale FrontOffice Suite, reports Enhanced Online News.
FrontOffice provides a self-service portal to infrastructure-as-a-service solutions and private clouds powered by Cisco UCS. "Self-service is a critical ingredient for successful cloud computing, and newScale is uniquely positioned to help Cisco customers deploy more cloud-like IT services,” says Scott Hammond, president and CEO of newScale.
The Cisco UCS platform unifies network, compute, storage access, and virtualisation resources in a cohesive system to reduce total cost of ownership, increase business agility, and improve productivity for the next-generation data centre.
