RIM supports Siemens OpenScape Voice

Research In Motion's (RIM) BlackBerry Mobile Voice System (MVS) 5.1 now supports OpenScape Voice V6 from Siemens Enterprise Communications, Telecom Paper reports.

The service provides a fixed-mobile convergence application to access desk phone functionality on BlackBerry smartphones.

The BlackBerry MVS will route the calls through a company's phone system and will also allow administrators to set IT policies, take advantage of least-cost routing and save on long-distance and international roaming charges, CBR writes.

Rick Puskar, senior VP, global portfolio management at Siemens Enterprise Communications, says the solution provides a simplified communications experience for IT and end-users, Telecom Lead says.

"BlackBerry MVS will help our joint customers increase their mobile productivity and simultaneously drive overall cost-efficiencies,” says Puskar.

In addition to support for Siemens Enterprise Communications, BlackBerry MVS supports corporate phone systems from Mitel, Avaya, Nortel and Cisco.
