Robin Rindel has stepped down from the board of networking and IT services group Datatec.
The group says in a notice published on the JSE`s SENS news service that Rindel decided to step down from the board as a result of his full-time operational responsibility at subsidiary Westcon.
Rindel serves as general manager of Westcon`s Asia Pacific, Africa and Middle East regions.
His resignation is with effect from last Friday.
Rindel, along with Datatec CEO Jens Montanana, made headlines in the latter part of 2001 when Datatec announced it was paying a R1 million insider trading settlement on their behalf.
A barrage of criticism led the company to withdraw its offer and the two directors had to pay the fine themselves.
An insider trading probe was sparked after the alleged disclosure of a specific item of inside information to an analyst.
The Datatec share was trading 2c or 0.5% up at 434c on the JSE this morning.
