Riverbed intros cloud WAN

Riverbed unveiled Cloud Steelhead, WAN optimisation software aimed at public cloud environments, reports Information Week.

Steelhead can speed the migration of data to the public cloud and improve the performance of applications hosted there. It interacts with previous products, Steelhead hardware appliances and Steelhead virtual appliances in software.

A server that is authorised to use WAN optimisation can now be equipped with Steelhead Discovery Agent. The agent can track a given server's movement to a new IP address, even if it is a virtual server that's been moved from on-premises to out in the cloud.

The high-speed network used by research and education organisations is moving to a much faster network, says The News.

When it comes to researching complex topics and accessing services on the Internet, having too much speed is never an issue. Now Internet2, established as a private network for researchers and educators, is about to get a needed speed boost.

As Enterprise Networking Planet reports, Internet2 is moving to 100Gb per second networking. Thanks to technology advances, the new network will include between 5TB and 8TB of capacity.

Yorkshire-based Internet service provider Exa Networks has unveiled its new computer networking and connectivity service called Exa Static 3G, writes TMC Net.

The company said its new service, where the IP address stays the same wherever the user is located, converges 3G mobility with access to internal IT systems and Internet filtering facilities as well as working as a 'failover'.

Exa Static 3G has been developed for businesses with staff that work 'on the road' but need to access their organisation's internal IT systems; educational establishments that want to allow mobile working but must restrict Internet access and filter content; and construction and security companies that need to set up secure IP-based CCTV systems in locations with no landlines such as building sites, Exa Networks says.
