Riverbed releases gigabit WAN optimiser
Riverbed Technology has released two models of its WAN optimisation engine, the Steelhead appliance, which achieves network throughput speeds of up to 1Gbps over Ethernet or OC-12 connections, says Computerworld.
The Steelhead 7050-L and 7050-M use solid-state drives (SSD) instead of hard disc drives and offer larger memory configurations of 32GB or 48GB. The appliances are aimed at backup consolidation for disaster recovery and business continuity.
"This is the first WAN optimisation product built on SSD, which enables faster read/write speeds," says Nik Rouda, director of product marketing at Riverbed. The appliances also support 10Gbps Ethernet for appliance clustering or for fail-over purposes.

Companies supporting business critical applications are also kept secure as the company operates two dedicated data centres in parallel from separate locations linked via high-speed fibre optic to provide full off-site backup.
MXSave unveils e-mail continuity plus
MXSave has announced access to its e-mail disaster recovery service from all standard desktop or mobile phone e-mail clients by enabling its e-mail continuity plus service, states 24-7 Press Release.
Previously, customers using its e-mail continuity service had to login to a Web site to view messages, reply to, or compose new messages. The company has since released a version where users can setup Microsoft Outlook or any other e-mail client to view and respond to any messages that fail-over to the disaster recovery service.
"By supporting standard desktop and mobile phone e-mail clients, organisations receive seamless e-mail disaster recovery for their employees," says Masood Rahim, founder and CEO for MXSave.
