Riverbed Technology, Inc (Nasdaq: RVBD), the technology and market leader in wide-area data services (WDS), today announced that its Steelhead appliance was the only WDS solution recognised in Storage Magazine's 2007 Storage Products of the Year Awards, winning the Silver award in the network equipment category.
Storage technology vendors submitted a record number of new storage-related products - more than 200 - for consideration in the annual awards competition.
In 2006, the Riverbed Steelhead appliance was the only WDS solution recognised, winning the Bronze award in the same category.
Judges and editors of SearchStorage.com and Storage Magazine decided the 2007 winners in five storage product categories: storage management, backup and disaster recovery software, storage networking equipment, disk and disk subsystems and backup hardware.
The awards programme recognised the Riverbed Optimisation System (RiOS) 4.0 in the networking equipment category, noting that "[t]he upgrades enhance the security and scalability of data transfers between branch offices and the central data centre". Riverbed has since upgraded RiOS with the release of version 5.0 in February 2008. RiOS 5.0 will offer customers unparalleled flexibility for their WDS deployment. RiOS 5.0 introduced the RiOS Services Platform (RSP). Upon its availability in late March 2008, potential services that could be delivered on the RSP include Active Directory/Domain Controller functionality, application performance monitoring, DNS/DHCP/IPAM, streaming video, unified threat management (UTM), and virtual machines.
Existing services provided by Riverbed on the RSP are print and proxy file services (PFS). The RSP will also offer further branch server consolidation and simplified administration. Riverbed also becomes the first WDS vendor to accelerate Exchange 2007 and enhances acceleration for frequently utilised Web applications such as SAP NetWeaver, JD Edwards, PeopleSoft, Oracle 11i, and SharePoint.
"Riverbed's continued recognition from Storage magazine is validation of how important WDS solutions are to the storage market," said Eric Wolford, senior vice-president of marketing and business development. "Our ability to lead the market in technology innovations while maintaining a laser-focus on the customer helps us to be first to market to continually provide products that address their needs - ranging from application acceleration and IT consolidation to data backup and recovery. We intend to continue to lead the way in providing solutions that meet and exceed the ever-changing needs of the industry."
