Riverbed Technology (NASDAQ: RVBD), the IT performance company, today announced that its Steelhead appliance running Riverbed Optimisation System (RiOS) 6.0, has been awarded IDG's InfoWorld 2011 Technology of the Year Award in the Best WAN Accelerator category.
Riverbed was selected for its improved flexibility, ease-of-use and broad application support. This marks the sixth consecutive time that Riverbed has received the magazine's prestigious Technology of the Year Award.
Selected by InfoWorld Test Center editors and reviewers, the awards identify the best and most innovative products on the IT landscape. Winners are drawn from all of the products tested during the past year, with the final selections made by InfoWorld's Test Center staff.
All products reviewed by the Test Center are eligible to win.
More than 8 700 organisations worldwide, across a wide range of markets, depend on Riverbed to understand, optimise and consolidate their IT infrastructure. Riverbed delivers hardware, software and virtualised solutions that overcome performance issues that can result in slow applications and file transfers caused by distance, distributed computing, and large amounts of data.
Riverbed delivers to the remote office and mobile workers the same "local" performance, no matter where the private data centre or public cloud may be. Riverbed continues building on its success in the WAN optimisation and network application performance visibility markets with new and innovative solutions for accelerating cloud storage and access to applications and data deployed in the public cloud.
"This recognition by InfoWorld is a testament to the value we continue to deliver to our customers by offering innovative new solutions that support their IT and business needs," said Eric Wolford, senior vice-president of marketing and business development at Riverbed. "WAN optimisation continues to be a strategic investment that eliminates performance barriers for enterprises and government organisations as they embark on critical IT initiatives, including the virtualisation of data centres, branch office consolidation, and migration to public cloud environments."
Riverbed's focus on delivering solutions that address the ever-changing needs of global organisations has led to the development of a comprehensive solution that provides LAN-like performance no matter where an employee or data is located. Building on the foundation of RiOS, the breadth of the Riverbed product family has expanded to provide organisations with unmatched performance for large-scale data centre-to-data centre replication, "local" performance for remote and mobile workers, and acceleration for private and public cloud environments.
"Of all the products we tested in the past year, these are the ones that impressed us the most. Our Technology of the Year Award winners are not just the best products in their class, but the ones that are changing the way IT services are delivered and the way people work," said Doug Dineley, Executive Editor/Test Center, InfoWorld.
