Navigor a division of EOH, recently completed an Oracle upgrade at RMB Asset Management. The project included an upgrade from Oracle Applications 11.0.3 to Oracle eBusiness Suite 11.5.9 and a migration from Sun Solaris operating system to Red Hat Linux.
"The upgrade was significant for two reasons. One is RMB Asset Management`s move to a Linux environment, which is becoming more common due to customer benefits such as improved performance, complete reliability and data security at a reduced cost. Secondly, the technology challenge of upgrading both the operating system and application at the same time was a calculated risk taken by both parties," says Michele Buson, Navigor unit head.
The upgrade, which was completed in two and a half months, was essentially to replace end of life hardware, as well as to implement new software which will ensure continued support from Oracle.
"Despite the decision halfway during the project to include an operating system migration, EOH Navigor delivered the project on time per the original project plan and 15% under budget" says Hanneli Combrinck, Chief Financial Officer of RMB Asset Management.
"The upgrade has provided us with significant benefits including additional functionality of the new application and has ensured continued support from Oracle. The new hardware and latest Oracle technology has also resulted in significant performance improvements. Some processes and reports are running up to 10 times faster than they did on the old system" says Combrinck.
Buson says a critical success factor was managing the various parties involved in the project. The team comprised representatives from RMB Asset Management, Navigor staff and specialist database administration services were provided by AppSolve.
"Despite the relatively high complexity of the project there have been no significant disruptions in the application since the go live date. We are extremely satisfied with the services delivered by Navigor" concludes Combrinck.
