The year`s first Conference on Information Technology in Tertiary (CITTE) will take place at the University of Port Elizabeth from 28 to 30 June. Change, expectation, knowledge and transformative skills are on the agenda.

The CITTE conference is a biannual event organised by the South African University and Technikon IT Directors Group. Its aim is to bring together those in the field of management and administration of IT in higher education.

Representatives and interested parties consider issues, exchange views, experiences and help to formulate strategies for the future.

Chris Nel, IT director at the University of Port Elizabeth and co-ordinator of the CITTE steering committee, says the event was initiated in 1996 when the South African University and Technikon IT Directors Group decided to bring all institutions together to focus on IT development.

Nel explains that prominent issues include the use of and technology in the teaching process, the delivery of information to the learner and the control of and access to IT in institutions.

Visit the CITTE 2000 conference Web site at www.upe.ac.za/citte2000 for more information.

The conference is a regional event and the next one is likely to take place in KwaZulu-Natal.
