Local label production house, Rotolabel, has implemented Lotus Notes and Domino to facilitate group communications and workflow procedures that will see the company adopt an e-business model in the coming year.

Elton Daries, Notes Developer at Rotolabel, says that the company is a veteran user of Lotus applications. Having been a SmartSuite user for some time the adoption of the Lotus Notes platform for messaging seemed to be a natural choice," he says.

Using Lotus Domino as a mail server, the company has ensured not only collaborative messaging between staff, but has also paved the way for the introduction of a number of value-added features and applications.

Daries says that a number of databases have been created using Notes. "We have created databases that monitor non-conformance procedures and costs as well as order processing, among others," he explains. "We are examining the possibility of integrating our existing Velocis database with Notes," says Daries, hinting that this move would take the company a step closer to its e-business plans.

"Domino`s integrated application services - such as , workflow and content management - optimise the platform for rapid delivery of collaborative Web applications Rotolabel requires to initiate and strengthen its e-business model," says Lesego Tlhabanelo, marketing communications manager at Lotus Development SA.

Built-in connection services also provide live access to relational databases, transaction systems and ERP applications. "Rotolabel is also looking at implementing a document management system that would enable it to improve organisational effectiveness and internal business processes by documents in a workflow environment," says Daries.

"It`s imperative that we move towards the electronic development, management and monitoring of all our business processes to eliminate as much of our paper-based documentation as possible," he concludes.
