RSA Security announces strong authentication appliance for enterprise customers

Johannesburg, 28 Feb 2006

SecureData, a member of the JSE-listed ERP.com Group and distributor for RSA Security products in Sub-Saharan Africa, today announced the latter's RSA SecurID Appliance 2.0, a scalable and easy-to-deploy stronger authentication solution that enables enterprise customers to establish the trusted identity of users accessing critical business resources.

In addition, the solution helps ease the technology procurement process, making it much simpler to deploy strong authentication across the enterprise. The solution scales to 50 000 users, and is pre-loaded with RSA Authentication Manager 6.1, the enterprise software that powers RSA SecurID two-factor authentication. RSA SecurID Appliance 2.0 meets the demands of enterprise customers seeking an appliance-based solution.

The new appliance may be deployed in as few as 15 minutes, enabling large organisations to easily roll-out two-factor authentication within varying environments, including offices with few IT resources. Customers may implement up to 10 replicas, ensuring business continuity for users accessing protected systems and applications. In addition, enterprises with existing RSA Authentication Manager infrastructure may leverage the appliance in order to cost-effectively scale the deployment.

"Providing secure remote access to corporate data is a growing reality for many businesses because of heightened productivity requirements and evolving work culture issues," commented Stan Oien, manager of CDW Corporation's team of security specialists, a group of certified product experts and engineers who help organisations design and deploy comprehensive information security solutions.

"RSA Security's new RSA SecurID Appliance responds to these needs because it allows network administrators to easily deploy strong authentication and add users at their own pace."

RSA SecurID Appliance 2.0 features, benefits

Enterprises can leverage the new RSA SecurID Appliance to provide stronger security for remote access servers, IP/Sec and SSL VPNs, wireless access points, terminal services, Microsoft Windows desktops and networks, and over 300 third-party solutions (eg, routers, servers and Web portals) certified through the RSA Secured Partner Programme. RSA SecurID two-factor authentication technology may also serve as the authentication point for RSA Sign-On Manager enterprise single sign-on software, RSA ClearTrust access management software, RSA Federated Identity Manager solution and RSA Key Manager software.

Additional features and benefits include:

* Intuitive user interface: RSA SecurID Appliance delivers a Web-based interface that is easy for IT administrators to learn and use.
* Authenticator flexibility: Customers deploying the RSA SecurID Appliance may select between the RSA SecurID SID800 USB-enabled authenticator, or the traditional RSA SecurID SID700 hardware token.
* Hardened operating system: The appliance is built on a hardened Microsoft Windows Server 2003 operating system, providing embedded firewall protection, disabled non-essential components, and limited group/user sharing options.
* RSA Authentication Manager 6.1 software: RSA SecurID Appliance 2.0 comes pre-loaded with RSA Authentication Manager 6.1, which delivers 802.1X-based security for organisations with both wired and wireless environments, and includes RSA SecurID for Microsoft Windows 2.0, enabling customers to strongly protect Microsoft Windows desktops and networks.

Appliance conversion programme

RSA Security will offer a conversion programme to current software-based RSA SecurID solution customers. The programme, which will be available to both enterprise and SMB customers, will offer fixed-price appliance hardware and a new RSA Authentication Manager software licence. RSA Security also provides detailed procedures for migrating data from RSA Authentication Manager software to RSA SecurID Appliance.

"RSA Security is committed to providing customers with a broad range of options for establishing the trusted identity of users accessing vital data, applications and technology infrastructure," added Toffer Winslow, vice-president of product management and product marketing at RSA Security. "RSA SecurID Appliance 2.0 solution will enable enterprises to easily roll-out stronger security across their organisations, while ensuring the ability to scale for future needs."
